Scientists revive multiple so-called “Zombie Viruses” frozen in ice from Siberia 48,500 years ago
In Europe, scientists tested samples taken from permafrost at a frozen lake in Siberia, Russia. They tested and revived 13 pathogens, all of which are new and nicknamed “Zombie Viruses”. These pathogens were found infectious.
The risk of this virus biologically is “totally negligible” according to a team of scientists from France, Russia and Germany.
According to Fortune, “Scientists have long warned that the thawing of permafrost due to atmospheric warming will worsen climate change by freeing previously trapped greenhouse gasses like methane, but its effect on dormant pathogens is less well understood.”
